A launch for such an intergalactic game as Super Mario Galaxy 2 was always going to impress. This time Nintendo and GAME went all out with plenty of goodie bags, dazzling displays and even the voice of Mario himself Mr Charles Martinet.
It was around 5pm when we started queuing up in a line which consisted of three other hardcore fans eager to buy the latest Mario title. It was only around 10 pm that the queue started to fill up with all sorts of Mario fans. Due to the fact that goodie bags were promised to those that dressed up as the plumber, plenty of fans did just that. It was quite a sight to see so many plumbers in one location, let alone the amount of bright red that could have been sighted from miles away.
The goodie bags were handed out to those dressed and then what was left to the ones who didn’t, while waiting for 11pm to come. The goodie bag consisted of a launch certificate, a keyring, a badge, a money tin and an adorable random soft toy. To keep hunger at bay GAME and Nintendo also partnered up wit h Domino pizza, so fans were kept happy with all sorts of pizza toppings.
Around 11pm fans were allowed inside to have a go at Super Mario Galaxy 2. The full game was on offer and fans were allowed a reasonable amount of time to get properly introduced. Those that played could then join another queue to buy the game and get items autographed by Mr Charles Martinet.
As always Mr Charles Martinet was a real pleasure to chat to while he was meeting Mario fans. It is impressive that someone manages to have so much energy to meet the sheer amount of fans that went.
After the last fan got his item signed it was time to wrap up on what turned out to be a really impressive launch event. A huge thanks to Nintendo and GAME for organizing an event for fans that waited many hours to buy the game.
Super Mario Galaxy is out now and a review should be up on the site soon.
