A dream that many fans have had for more than a decade will soon come true as SEGA prepares for the launch of Sonic 4. Over the last few years SEGA has tried to create new Sonic games which would be on par with similar modernised games. The games were not without their own flaws but still offered many fun moments for players of all ages.
The problem was that like many other classic game series it was missing that nostalgia factor. The fact that many new Sonic games were in a 3D perspective made it lose that sense of speed that 2D offered. Another aspect which sometimes brought down the Sonic series was its many characters. The 1st Sonic game had a simple concept to get to the end of a level. It left the rest up to the player in terms of how fast and what other goals could be reached. Well this game is looking likely to fix all of these issues and many more. With Sonic 4 it seems like SEGA is going back to what Sonic used to be.The game even goes to the effort of including new versions of old enemies.
With not much revealed at the moment it is safe to guess that Sonic will be going back to the original concept found in the 1st game. The game will be released in episodic content meaning that gamers will have at least(technically) 2 new/classic Sonic games to look forward to. With a vague Summer release data for the Wii, Playstation network and a yet to be known platform it will be interesting to see how the game plays.
For now here is an image of what Sonic should look like when being played in the levels.
